Paving on Forbes Avenue in Uptown to Restrict Multiple Side Streets

PITTSBURGH – Motorists traveling on Forbes Avenue in Uptown should expect traffic delays and temporary restrictions to multiple cross streets this week as Pittsburgh Regional Transit continues paving for the University Line project.

On Tuesday, October 20, PRT’s contractor will begin final milling and paving on both sides of Forbes Avenue between Jumonville Street and the Birmingham Bridge. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with the work expected to be completed by Saturday, October 24.

Crews will also mill and pave intersections along Forbes Avenue at Jumonville, Seneca, and Moultrie streets. Later in the week, paving will take place at the intersections of Forbes Avenue and Marion, Van Braam, Miltenberger, Gist, and Seneca streets. During this work:

- One travel lane will be remain open on Forbes Avenue.

- Access to affected cross streets will be temporarily restricted while crews are working.

- Brief restrictions are expected at Brady Street and the Birmingham Bridge on-ramp as paving equipment moves through the area.

- Bus boarding will be at street level only.  PRT will have flaggers and staff to assist riders boarding and exiting buses.

- Sidewalk and ADA access will be maintained  opposite each active work zone.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Additional paving at other locations on Fifth and Forbes avenues in Uptown and Oakland will continue through the end of November.

These improvements are part of Phase II of the University Line project, which will strengthen connections between Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland while improving the overall travel experience for riders, pedestrians, and cyclists.
